Journal’s Vision & Audience
Our journal seeks to share ideas and practices in the area of mathematics education with our membership that at current is nearing 2,500 individuals. Members include: practicing, pre-service, and retired teachers; administrators; higher education faculty; and a variety of other individuals with an interest in teaching and learning mathematics.
Appropriate Submissions
Elementary through college level instructors and school leaders are encouraged to submit manuscripts for inclusion in the journal. A variety of formats are welcomed including research-based studies, expository essays, book reviews, articles about teaching practices, and ideas for instruction. The focus of the manuscript should be on how one’s work exemplifies best practices in the teaching and learning of mathematics as it relates to state and NCTM standards.

Submission Deadline
Manuscripts are accepted on an ongoing basis all year round.
Submission Format & Style
- Manuscripts should be double-spaced with one-inch margins, 12 point Times New Roman font. References should be listed at the end of the manuscript in APA format.
- Manuscripts should follow the formatting of other articles in the journal. Review the formatting of the sample article when preparing your work.
- Title should be at top of the first page- centered and bolded
- Abstract should follow in italics, indented on the right and left.
- Writing following the abstract should be in two-column format.
- Manuscripts vary in length. The preferred length should be between 1500 and 2500 words.
- Original figures, tables, and graphs should appear embedded in the document. Please do not use text boxes, footnotes, or head-notes. For those utilizing Math Type when preparing your manuscript, we strongly recommend converting Math Type equations to jpeg format before submitting your manuscript. (All accepted articles are converted into PDF files before printing. This process can alter items created with Math Type.)
- All manuscripts should include an abstract after the title of the manuscript. Limit length of abstract to 250 words or less.
- All manuscripts are submitted electronically. The electronic copy may be submitted via email attachment to Tom Walsh, Editor in Chief, at tpwalsh@kean.edu. Author name, work address, telephone number, fax, and email address must appear on the cover sheet. No author identification should appear on the manuscript after the cover sheet.
Referring Process
- All manuscripts are reviewed using a blind-review process.
- Each manuscript is reviewed by a minimum of two professional educators and leaders in the area of mathematics instruction and education.
- Authors will be notified via email after the review is complete. Review takes approximately 4-8 weeks.
- If a manuscript is accepted for inclusion in the journal, the author(s) will be asked to submit a brief biographical sketch for inclusion in the journal.
